My name is Miguel Rivera, school counselor, community leader, and a proud product of Norwalk and the NLMUSD. Having spent my life in this community and as a former student of our district, I am deeply committed to its betterment.
Currently, I am an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Norwalk, Executive Director of Dream Big Project, and a School Counselor at Saddleback High School in the city of Santa Ana.
My journey with NLMUSD goes beyond being a student; it's a testament to my dedication to improving our educational system. I'm running for a position on the school board because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. I want to contribute to enhancing the quality of education and experiences offered by our district.
We are facing a critical issue with declining enrollment, and we must address it head-on. To tackle this, I propose proactive measures such as engaging with the community to understand their needs better, implementing innovative programs to attract and retain students, and collaborating with local businesses to create internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
The deficit poses a significant obstacle to achieving our educational goals, but it's not insurmountable. I intend to work diligently to identify areas where we can streamline spending, seek alternative funding sources, and prioritize investments that directly benefit our students and educators.
Teachers are the backbone of our educational system, and their well-being directly impacts the quality of education our students receive. I am committed to providing teachers with the necessary support and resources to excel in their roles. This includes professional development opportunities, access to modern teaching tools, and a supportive work environment that fosters growth and collaboration.
